Environmental survey is conducted for different reasons. In the physical context it may mean temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure in a particular geographic area. Such surveys are conducted to assess suitability of certain equipment and devices for different conditions. For example, we may have to asses the efficiency of mobile devices in high temperature environs like a desert. It may be necessary to conduct an environmental survey in such cases.The term environmental survey is also used in workplaces. The quality of life and motivation levels of employees have a tremendous impact on their efficiency. In this context, it may include both tangible and intangible factors which impact on work environment. Factors such as lighting, air conditioning, sufficient work space and even aesthetics play an important role. Some companies pay special attention to in which their human assets are operating in.Environmental surveys in the context of mobiles may include factors such as cell density, microwave attenuation and strength in various locations and atmospheric conditions. In has been observed that the communication efficiency is dependant on the climatic conditions. Cell positioning can also directly impinge on mobile telephony. In a densely packed environment like a city, tall structures can effect transmission and reception. These areas have to be mapped in environmental surveys in order to take necessary steps to avoid problems created by these zones. Environmental surveys are therefore necessary to obtain information about in which human and physical resources have to operate in. degradation in performance can often occur due to environmental factors. For material assets storage, inventory and deployment may often be dictated by environmental factors. Carefully conducted environmental survey, may eventually lead to cost savings by better deployment of resources.
